Agra rewards visitors who move between the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and a hotel without feeding peak Fatehabad Road congestion. The open metro corridor is the public tool for that. This guide assumes you are a domestic or international visitor, not a daily commuter, and that you will still obey ASI monument rules that have nothing to do with UPMRC.
Where to stay if you want metro
Fatehabad Road and the East Gate cluster put you within a short walk or e-rickshaw of operational stations. A hotel near Agra Cantt railway station is convenient for trains but not for today’s metro — Blue Line is still being built. Sikandra / Akbar’s Tomb is a separate trip until Yellow Line extends.
A simple itinerary
- Morning Taj using Taj East Gate or Taj Mahal station.
- Return to the hotel or a cafe for bags and water.
- Afternoon Fort using Dr Ambedkar Chowk / Mankameshwar.
- Back to the hotel before you gamble on last train.
Tickets for visitors
Two QR tickets or a small smart-card load usually beat hunting for a mythical tourist pass. Keep the phone charged. UPI works often but not always underground. See tickets and smart card.
Safety and accessibility
Women may use the reserved coach. Families with a wheelchair should confirm lifts are working before they commit to an underground station. Children hold hands on escalators. Emergency is 112. Read safety and accessibility.
