Visitors search Agra Fort metro station because they want a monument-to-monument day: Taj Mahal in the morning, Agra Fort after lunch. The open Agra Metro Yellow Line does reach the Fort belt, but the station names on the map are Dr. Ambedkar Chowk and Mankameshwar, both underground and operational since 6 March 2024.
How to reach Agra Fort by metro
- Board the Yellow Line on the open stretch (Taj East Gate–Mankameshwar).
- Alight at Dr. Ambedkar Chowk for the Fort approach, or Mankameshwar if you are also visiting the temple / Jama Masjid side.
- Complete the last mile on foot or by e-rickshaw. The ASI ticket window is not inside the unpaid metro plaza.
Taj Mahal + Agra Fort in one metro day
Use Taj East Gate or Taj Mahal station for the mausoleum, then ride toward Mankameshwar for the Fort. Buy a QR that covers the stations you will actually cross, or tap an NCMC card. See Agra Metro fare and the Taj Mahal metro guide.
What not to assume
Do not wait for a future “Agra Fort” branded board if staff point you to Ambedkar Chowk. Do not treat construction photos of other Yellow Line boxes as Fort access. Blue Line to Agra Cantt is not a Fort shortcut until it opens — see Blue Line status.
Timings and crowds
Fort visits run on ASI hours, not metro hours. Leave enough time for the last train. Winter weekends crowd both monuments; keep water rules and bag size in mind at metro security.
